"MENAGERIE"
is the title of Marianne Lerbs upcoming art exhibit at Taylor and
Taylor (next door to Flavors) on King Street this next First Friday,
September 2nd, 2011.
A collection of images loosely inspired by antiqued archetypical animal
figures is no stranger subject matter for artist Marianne Lerbs. A
preceding sculpture exhibit entitled Sacred Animals was successfully
shown in New Orleans’ D.O.C.S art gallery before Katrina struck the Big
Easy. This new exhibit of iconic paintings, executed sometimes on wood,
other times on linen and canvas, are loaded with old and new imagery,
textures that can be traced to stone, gold leaf, and 500 hundred years
of inspiration that this city can instill. The works are contemporary
though, marrying both old and new in a fresh review of the portrayed
mythical entities .
"Menagerie" is a word used to describe animal figures other than horses
in the old carrousel figures. But make no mistake, there is no
intention of making "cutesy" in these images.
Fine artist Marianne Lerbs has been in St. Augustine since 1992, where
she moved from Venezuela. Her art trajectory includes being the Artist
in Residence for Jacksonville's Cultural Council, teaching art in
Flagler College, creating Mosaic Murals for the Rainforest Butterfy
Vivarium at the University of Florida in Gainesville, a collection of 5
historic women from North Florida and 3 large paintings with aspects of
Florida History currently on exhibit at the Casa Monica Hotel (Kessler
Collection), two monumental sculptures in the St. Augustine Sculpture
Garden on Lakeside Park, and ties to the local art community, including
Butterfield Garage and Butterfield Too Arts Galleries.
You can see more some of her older works at her website: http:www.lerbs.com
"Menagerie" will open at Taylor and Taylor, next to Flavors on King St
., this next First Friday Gallery Walk, September 2, 20011, from 5 to
PM. Come meet the artist.

| Robert Dorrill, a nature and landscape
photographer, is the featured artist at P.A.St.A. Art
Gallery during the month of August. Bob's exhibit, "Sites and
Scenes of St. Augustine" will emphasize nature and
landscapes.
Some of nature's greatest gifts to mankind are the
beautiful wading birds found in the St. Augustine area. During the mating
season, hundreds of the Great Egrets, Ibis, Roseate Spoonbills, Wood Storks, and
even the Great Blue Heron fly into the trees of the Alligator Farm nesting only
a few feet from each other to mate and raise their babies. Some of
these scenes will be included in the show along with
beautiful sunrises which occur daily on St. Augustine beach.
Mr. Dorrill's interest in photography goes back to his younger
days when he had a functioning darkroom as a hobby, but today
he has evolved into the digital world of images.
Retirement and the beautiful St. Augustine area
has greatly contributed to his photographic
experience.
You are invited to the opening reception August 5,
2011, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm during First Friday Art Walk in St.
Augustine. Location is P.A.St.A. Gallery, 214 Charlotte

PASTA Art Gallery Featured Artist Carolyn Hayes Kelso
A native of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, graduate of the R.I. School of Design, retired N.Y. Fashion Illustrator and Graphic Artist , wife, mother and grandmother of nine who lives with her husband, John, in St. Augustine, Florida. Signature member Florida Watercolor Society, Jacksonville Watercolor Society Artist of the Year 2008 and member of the St. Augustine Art Association.
I was classically trained to respect the two-dimensional surface. To stay on the surface as an illustrator and as a painter. To this day, it is my goal to always try to honor this theory, I have learned to give the viewer a place to rest in my pieces and, I hope, a giggle or two.

"Andrew
Wilson is a re-fresh resident to St. Augustine and a result of Flagler
College's Art Department. Andrew Wilson's work deals with the human
portrait and body, illustration of word, nature, and the common
interaction with those around him. As his subject matter will change, it
is Wilson's intent that it could all be connected through the Saint
Augustine atmosphere in which Wilson resides. Wilson receives his
inspiration from his tight spiritual community, flea markets, and
alley-walking in his uptown neighborhood of Saint Augustine.
Andrew
Wilson's process can be compared to that of a construction site.
Beginning with solid foundations, Wilson applies various opacities of
acrylic and oil paint repeatedly. He then uses enough paint thinner
within his paint to fool first glances into thinking it's watercolor.
The translucence and overlapping gives detail, depth, and the slight
chance to inspect a previous layer. Wilson's segmented strokes and
layers give a sense of both construction and disintegration.
Wilson's
current work dissects the actions and truths of a community through the
work of acrylic and oil painting. Focusing on the human body, Wilson
illustrates the intimate gatherings and humble situations of a body
living for God. At times this work reaches lengths greater than arm
spans of the average viewer to glorify an unavoidable fact or emotion."

Artist Exhibit at Tim's Wine Market
Bruce & Dottie Cook have operated River~Wood Studio for over 5 years from North Florida along the Suwannee River.
The
unique & original art has proven to be quite popular & well
received. The works are bas-reliefs consisting of wood & epoxy resin
along with a wide variety of findings, metal, glass & anything else
imaginable. Nature has always been a central theme due to the limitless
variety & beauty it posses. The effort began, following an injury,
as simply something to do & has taken on a life of it's own. In the
beginning, the art came from an interest in the traditional folk art
form of the "Pa. Dutch" barn signs. These colorful ancient designs are a
lost art rarely seen these days.
The subject matter of the art
is limitless, "YOU DREAM IT, WE CREATE IT!!" says Bruce. Currently,
Dottie is producing her own designs and doing very well with them.
Their
art has been judged, juried & awarded as both fine & folk art,
as it has elements of both categories. Working together for over 10
years as self taught artists has helped hone the art to a genre all it's
own, resulting in over 2,500 pieces being marketed. American made,
non-toxic, & recycled material is used as much as possible to
produce a lightweight, durable work of art that will be around for
generations. Custom art signs can also be created for specific
applications.
The Florida Department of Cultural Affairs
nominated Bruce to The Southern Artists Federation IN 2006 and he was
adjudicated to this prestigious organization comprised of select artists
in a wide range of disciplines limited to 9 southern states.

In August of last year, Seth relocated his family to St. Augustine so he could follow his passion. "There's magic about metal that mesmerizes those who work with and appreciate it.
